When the palombes migrate through SW France, hunters climb up to their cabins in the top of the trees. Sometimes the ladders need repairing. This lazy hunter has strung up a trapeze instead and his fellow hunter is not happy!

Les plombiers Landais.  (The plumbers of Les Landes)

Plombiers sounds almost like palombières, which are the huts used to hide while hunting wood pigeons (palombes) in Les Landes.

So, ‘Volaille’ means ‘fowl’, ‘vol’ means ‘fly’, ‘ail’ is French for garlic. So ‘Vol’ail  ! Easy, eh?

Ah, Nature, miles from everything…  no noise…  no stress…   hmm, no signal…

At the Cannefour, one canardly believe the choice.

Apples baked on a bed of wafer-thin pastry, generously sprinkled with armagnac. All agree that it is delicious, but is it called a Tourtiere Landaise, or a Croustade Gasconne?

Life is too short to spit out a good wine... though the wine cellar manager may disagree.
